Epicenter Church

Downtown Summer Series

Our preview series for Calvary-Epicenter, the downtown ministry of Epicenter Church, is entitled Refresh.  Themed around the famous 23rd Psalm, Refresh will be a four-part worship series held on Wednesday evenings in downtown DC.  Calvary-Epicenter meets in the building of Calvary Baptist Church on the corner of 8th and H St, NW, one block west of the Chinatown exit from Gallery Place Metro station.  Services are at 6:30pm, placed intentionally in the middle of the week, when many of us are feeling exhausted already from the stress of our jobs, with two days yet to go before the weekend.

The first Calvary-Epicenter service is set for Wednesday evening, June 25.  Future services are set for July 23, August 20 and September 17.  In October, Calvary-Epicenter will go weekly - every Wednesday night at 6:30pm.  Calvary-Epicenter is a bit different in style than our Sunday night Epicenter service in Rosslyn - it is about a third shorter - 50 minutes instead of 1:15, it is somewhat more contemplative, a bit quieter.  Some might even say it is a bit more simple.  Calvary-Epicenter is a collaborative ministry of Epicenter Church (United Methodist) and Calvary Baptist Church, with pastoral leadership shared by Paul Nixon (Epicenter pastor) and Amy Butler (Calvary pastor).  We are not aware of any other two churches in America where there is a shared weekly worship community reaching across denominational lines, while other worship services remain that are entirely led by the respective churches.  Both Epicenter and Calvary believe that the Body of Christ utterly transcends human constructs of denomination and church membership.  Calvary-Epicenter is a ministry that joins the energy and creativity of people from two great churches to do something together that is beyond what we could do alone - and to bear witness to the City of Washington that God's Church transcends human boundaries and invites people into universal community.
